On the Eastern side of the 200-acre property the Wentzells built a small cabin.  As Carol Wentzell, the youngest of 5 children told the Dreschers, he said 'My great, great granddaddy “cut a hole in the woods”' and that was the original homestead for the first permanent settlers on this farm.

The aboriginal people had come here for many years prior to this for the fishing, hunting, foraging, as the area is rich, abundant, and healing.  They continued to visit and forage over the early years of the Wentzell family settlement.

The original farmhouse is what is known as the “woodshed”. A room called the “Chat Room”, the harvest kitchen, and a bathroom now occupy the rest of the 150-years-old original space.  The rest of the house consists of at least 2 additions.

When the Drescher families were shown the house by Marion Wentzell in 1990, she walked through a doorway and said, “Now, I’ll show you the new part”. That “new part”, built around 1856, was already 134 years old.

The Drescher family lived here happily for 28 years raising their family and welcoming the next generation.
Windhorse Farmhouse consists of a gathering space, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a dining room, kitchen, and 2 decks, both enclosed and open. There are 2 comfortable sitting areas, each with a wood stove, as well as a front porch comfortable for early morning and late afternoon bird watching. The eastern view and central part of the home faces Wentzell's Lake, a wide spot in the LaHave River.

One bedroom with a double bed and one bathroom (shared with cabin guests) are located on the main floor. Upstairs are the Yellow Room, 3 bedrooms, and one bathroom. The Yellow Room is an open gathering space with wood floors and lots of windows as well as 2 twin beds. The Green Room has a queen-size bed, the Brown Room a double bed, and the Blue Room 2 twin beds. The house sleeps up to 10 people in 7 beds. Each room faces a unique view of the farm, lake, forest, and garden.

The farmhouse is fully furnished. The kitchen is stocked with pots and pans, dishes and utensils, kettle, and coffee-maker. Linens and towels are provided. Heat is provided by the wood stoves, hot-water radiators, and the kitchen and dining area have in-floor radiant heat. Wireless internet connection is available in this space.
